Man United players were said to be ‘too humiliated’ to celebrate after seeing off Coventry City on penalties in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.
How the game unfolded
It was considered an easy game for the Red Devils against a Championship side. However, the reality is different.
Erik ten Hag’s side cruised against Coventry with a 3-0 lead. However, the Championship club almost made the unthinkable comeback.
Coventry scored three goals to make it 3-3 before VAR denied their late goal in extra-time.
United then completed the job on penalties, with Rasmus Hojlund scoring the final kick.
Man United players did not celebrate
After cheering with the fans, the Dane turned around, but he looked shocked to see only Christian Eriksen approach and join his celebration. The rest of the Man United players stood in the centre circle, showing zero motion of joy.
Meanwhile, Antony underperformed and overpriced, cupping his ear to the Coventry players, while Harry Maguire showed his leadership by shaking the opponent’s hands after victory.
United’s fans, though, noted that their team looked subdued after the victory. One said on social media, “Why on earth has only Eriksen gone over to celebrate with Hojlund????” Another added, ” Kind of sad that nobody ran over to Hojlund there.” A third commented, “United players too ashamed to celebrate. Hojlund turned around and saw nobody behind him. I’m finished.”
Erik ten Hag has guided his team to successive FA Cup finals. For the second season in a row, they’ll face Manchester City, which makes them massive underdogs. The manner of their victory, though, saw the pressure ramp up on their Dutch manager.
