Neuer signs contract extension with Bayern
The 38-year-old goalkeeper’s contract was set to expire at the end of the season.
The contract will keep him until he turns 40 in March next year.
“I’m still hungry and am looking forward to another year at this special club,” Neuer said in a statement.
“We’ve still got many goals to achieve together.”
Bayern mainstay
Neuer has been with Bayern since arriving from Schalke in 2011.
The German has won the Champions League twice and the Bundesliga 11 times.
His longevity is evident, as he has outlasted several players once considered his successors at Bayern.
Alexander Nübel, signed in 2020, has spent most of his time on loan — first at Monaco and now at Stuttgart.
Just last week, Bayern signed another goalkeeper viewed as a future option, Jonas Urbig, from second-tier Cologne.
“Manuel Neuer is the best goalkeeper of his generation and a Bayern icon,” said Bayern’s board member for sport Max Eberl.
“When you talk about goalkeeping in our time, you talk about Manuel Neuer — and that’s around the world.”
“He’s an absolute role model, both on and off the pitch. We’re delighted that this unique and successful relationship will continue.”
