Pochettino leaves Chelsea
The club confirmed Pochettino’s departure in a statement.
“Chelsea FC can confirm that the club and Mauricio Pochettino have mutually agreed to part ways.”
Pochettino, 52, signed a two-year deal with Chelsea.
However, Chelsea only finished sixth in the Premier League despite ending their season with five straight wins.
Nonetheless, the Argentine boss guided the Blues to a runner-up finish in the Carabao Cup and reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
Pochettino was Chelsea’s sixth permanent manager in five years, following Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter’s departure.
“Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club’s history,” Pochettino said.
“The club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.”
Assistant coaches Jesús Pérez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jiménez, and Sebastiano Pochettino have also left the club.
Chelsea have expressed interest in hiring Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna, Sporting’s Ruben Amorim, and Burnley’s Vincent Kompany.
The club’s sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, are not ruling out the possibility of Pochettino’s return.
“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season.
“He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge any time and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career.”
