Eala did the unthinkable after she stunned reigning Australian Open champion Keys, 6-4, 6-2.
Moreover, the 19-year-old Filipino world No.140 never lost the set in the tournament, and she didn’t flinch against the American 30-year-old world No.5
Furthermore, Eala is showcasing the skills she honed at the Rafael Nadal academy in Mallorca where she trained since was 13.
“I am just in disbeliefI knew I could win from the start, but the chances were low given that she is a great player,” Eala told the Tennis Channel.
“But I think my belief and the trust I had in myself is what pushed me through,” she added.
SWIATEK, BADOSA, RADUCANU ADVANCE
Iga Swiatek, Paulda Badosa, and Emma Raducanu were among the major women’s singles names who reached the next round.
Furthermore, Swiatek delivered a 7-6(2), 6-1 victory over No.27 seed Elise Mertens, with the Polish No.2 seed making the last 16 of a WTA 1000 event in 25-straight appearances.
Moreover, Swiatek will next face Elina Svitolona, who humbled 15th seed Karolina Muchova, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
Badosa also advanced after her 6-3, 7-6(3) win over Clara Tauson. Up next for the 27-year-old Spanish No.11 is Eala.
Raducanu will join Swiatek and Badosa after her opponent, American McCartney Kessler, retired from their third-round match while trailing 6-1, 3-0.
“I’m happy that I got my level up in the tiebreaker to close it in two sets. Also in the second set I felt like I was playing good, big confidence,” Swiatek said.
