HOPMAN CUP CANCELATION A ‘SENSIBLE DECISION’
The International Tennis Federation (ITF) confirmed the decision, with players and officials already informed of the development. The mixed team event will return in Côte d’Azur in 2025.
“With both the Hopman Cup and the Olympic Games due to take place in France this year, hitting pause on the Hopman Cup until 2025 is a sensible decision,” ITF president David Haggerty said on Tuesday.
“The players who had committed to this year’s event have been informed, and we look forward to seeing them in the Cote d’Azur next year,” he added.
FRANCE NEARLY HOSTED HOPMAN CUP BACK-TO-BACK
The Hopman Cup was staged in Nice last year, making this year supposedly the second-straight year it will host the event. Croatia beat Switzerland in last year’s final.
The event was held in Australia ahead of the Australian Open from 1989 until 2019. It resumed in France last year after a three-year hiatus.
The Paris Olympics tennis competitions will begin on July 27.
