PATEL’S 11 WICKETS HELP BLACK CAPS POST FIRST 3-0 WHITEWASH OF INDIA

Patel’s 11 wickets helped the Black Caps post their first 3-0 whitewash of India in their Test series at the Wankhede Stadium.

Furthermore, the 36-year-old left-arm spinner outplayed India star Rishabh Pant as New Zealand completed its series win in Mumbai.

Moreover, Patel have to execute something different to beat out Pant and get Player of the Match honors.

“He (Pant) batted phenomenally throughout the series. I had to think out of the box and made sure to come up with a new plan and stay ahead of him,” Patel said.

“I felt confident even in the morning session (on Day 2), but the wicket did not offer me much. After lunch, I got the confidence to toss it up and use my guile,” he added.

Patel combined with Glen Phillips for nine wickets to defend 146 to offset Pant’s 57, which took them from 29 for 5 to 106 for 6.

NZ CAPTAIN LATHAM FELT BLACK CAPS WERE ‘A BIT MORE AGGRESSIVE WITH THE BAT’

Moreover, New Zealand captain Tom Latham felt the Black Caps were “a bit more aggressive with the bat.”

Furthermore, the 32-year-old wicket-keeper-batter cited an “all-around, great team effort.”

That started from their success in Bengaluru to Mitchell Santner’s 13-wicket haul in the second Test in Pune.

“We wanted to come over here (India) and try to fire a few shots… and I certainly think we’ve done that,” Latham said.

“I think just being able to adapt to each ground (gives the most satisfaction),” he added.

The win was impressive since Patel managed just four wickets at an average of 49.25.

This number was done in three wickets on the tour before his major performance on Sunday.

MITCHELL, YOUNG ALSO STEP UP BEFORE PATEL’S MAJOR BURST

Furthermore, Daryl Mitchell and Will Young also stepped up for New Zealand before Patel’s major burst.

Moreover, Mitchell had a solid 82 in the Black Caps’ first innings, which totaled 235 after they opted to bat.

It was Mitchell’s first half-century on the tour.

“It’s something you dream of, and to come over here and actually achieve it, it’s pretty special against a world-class Indian team,” he said.

Young was an able replacement for Kane Williamson.

He tallied 244 runs in the series to clinch the Player of the Series award.

“I need to trust my defense, and at times, (it’s about) just being really clear on where I wanted to score,” Young said.

Mitchell would later sum up what pushed New Zealand to do the unthinkable against India.

“We’re just a bunch of Kiwis taking on the world and very proud to represent our country,” he said.
