IHSANULLAH’S ROUTINE ELBOW INJURY GOT SERIOUS
Ihsanullah was initially reported to have sustained an elbow injury which turned out to be misdiagnosed into something serious.
The 26-year-old Pakistan and Multan Sultans bowler suffered the injury while playing for Pakistan in his ODI debut in April 2023.
The PCB medical department, led by Dr. Sohail Saleem, initially made the diagnosis as Ihsanullah played his last competitive match at the time.
Saleem left the PCB in 2021 before he returned to the cricket board under Najam Sethi’s leadership early last year.
SALEEM DISPUTES PCB’S MISMANAGEMENT CLAIM ON IHSANULLAH’S TREATMENT
Salem denies that PCB was at fault regarding the treatment of Ihsanullah.
“There was no mishandling in this case. I’ll admit there was a delay (in the initial diagnosis) but not mishandling,” Saleem told ESPNcricinfo.
Sultans owner Ali Tareen told ESPNcricinfo that the PCB medical department could not pick up an elbow fracture in the scans conducted on Ihsanullah.
The PCB eventually went on straightening the fast bowler’s elbow.
Ihsanullah then went on a training regimen not knowing that it was a serious injury eventually.
SECOND OPINION SAYS IHSANIULLAH REQUIRES SURGERY
Dr. Javed Mughal, a physiotherapist who works in the UK and is now a PCB consultant, was sought for a second opinion on the Sultans’ bowler.
There was a separate injury concern on Ihsanullah’s shoulder that was undiagnosed, Mughal said.
Tareen is convinced that Ihsanullah will require further surgery due to the undiagnosed injury.
The PCB is expected to pay for Ihsanullah’s surgery and it will be held in the UK.
