PCB TO ALLOW INDIA TO PLAY IN UAE UNDER HYBRID MODEL
Expect the PCB to allow India to play in the UAE under a hybrid model.
This was part of the three options it has offered to the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Furthermore, multiple reports said the PCB was open to adjusting its schedule to host the 2025 Champions Trophy to accommodate India’s request.
Moreover, the Indian government continues to disallow sending a cricket team to play in Pakistan.
This is due to political and security reasons.
Pakistan last hosted a major cricket tournament in the Asia Cup in 2023.
At that time, the hosts used a “hybrid model” to allow India to play its matches in Sri Lanka.
ICC URGED TO ANNOUNCE TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE NEXT WEEK
Moreover, the ICC was urged to announce the tournament schedule as early as next week.
Furthermore, the PCB hopes the ICC will make the call early.
This came as top officials from the world governing body will visit Lahore next week.
“The PCB has discussed with the ICC the tentative schedule which they sent some months back and wants the same schedule announced on November 11,” a source with knowledge of the matter said.
Additionally, the PCB is bracing for the Indian government to only allow a cricket team to play outside Pakistan.
“The PCB feels that even if (the) Indian government does not clear the tour to Pakistan, slight adjustments can be made to the schedule,” a PCB source told Press Trust of India.
“As in all probability, India would play its matches in Dubai or Sharjah,” the source added.
BCCI EXPECTED TO INFORM PCB OF OFFICIAL DECISION ON CHAMPIONS TROPHY STINT
Furthermore, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to inform the PCB of the Indian government’s official decision on their team’s stint.
“The PCB wants the BCCI to give in writing whether they get permission from their government or not to send their team to Pakistan,” the source said.
Moreover, a marquee matchup between hosts Pakistan and India is tentatively set for March 1 next year in Lahore.
Incidentally, Pakistan will open its campaign against New Zealand in Karachi.
The tournament unfolds on February 19.
The PCB is committed to using nearly INR13 billion to upgrade stadiums.
The tournament will be staged in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi in time for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
