Pedri signs new contract with Barcelona
Barça prioritized Pedri’s contract extension in 2025, with his previous deal set to expire in the summer of 2026.
The 22-year-old first joined Barca from Las Palmas as a teenager and made 52 appearances in his debut season.
That same summer, Pedri represented Spain in both the European Championship and the Olympic Games.
Despite struggling with injuries over the past three seasons, he has remained injury-free this season and played a key role under Flick.
He is closing in on 200 appearances for the club.
Flourishing under Flick
This season, Pedri has established himself as a key player in Hansi Flick’s squad.
Flick remarked that a change in the club’s approach to managing Pedri’s playing time has worked wonders for the Spaniard.
“We change a little bit the philosophy with Pedri this season,” the German coach said in a news conference.
“We keep him playing because it’s better for our fitness, our idea, our philosophy about fitness, it’s better like this with him.”
“For that reason we don’t manage his minutes from the start of the games. Maybe just at the end of games.”
