Cueva’s wife speaks up
Cueva’s wife, Pamela Lopez, said in a television interview that she suffered physical and psychological abuse on repeated occasions.
Lopez recalled that “there were slaps, hair pulling, pushing. The last thing was that he was suffocating me, covering my mouth and nose, strangling me by the neck.”
“He always said insults and swears and then came back repentant.”
Lopez said it took her years before she decided to file a case against Cueva.
“But I made it for myself, for my children and for all the women who suffer the same thing that I have suffered for many years… I have been subjected to their manipulation. I will continue to file my complaint to the very end, for myself and for my children.”
Cueva fired for domestic abuse
Cueva, 32, recently signed a contract with Cienciano on Sunday.
He has yet to make his debut with the team.
However, Cienciano decided to distance themselves from the footballer.
“After concluding the internal investigation process, footballer Christian Cueva has been permanently separated from the club,” a club statement said on Tuesday.
“This decision has been made in strict compliance with our values and to preserve the integrity of the institution.”
The former Rayo Vallecano and Sao Paulo midfielder last played with Saudi side Al Fateh.
In addition, Cueva also took part at the recent Copa America for Peru.
He has 100 appearances for the country.
