POSSIBLE ACL INJURY FEARED AFTER BERNAL GOES DOWN IN BARCA’S LATEST WIN
The possible ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury is feared after Bernal went down on Monday.
Furthermore, the 17-year-old Spanish footballer sustained the injury in the ninth minute of added time.
It dampened Barca’s 2-1 win over Rayo Vallecano after Dani Olmo made his successful debut.
The midfielder had to be led in the match’s final minutes off the field.
Moreover, Bernal is one of three youngsters who have started in all of Blaugrana’s three matches.
The others were defender Pau Cubarsi and winger Lamine Yamal.
He was promoted from the youth Berga, Gimnastic Manresa, and Barcelona youth categories to the senior team on June 23 last year.
COACH ASSURES NO ‘PANIC SIGNINGS’ FOR BARCA AMID IMPENDING TRANSFER WINDOW CLOSE
Furthermore, the coach assured that Barca will not make any “panic signings” as the transfer window closes.
Moreover, Flick is confident that his team has many players to cover Bernal’s midfielder position.
“Now we have to think about everything, but at the end of the day, we have many players,” the coach said.
“We have one match before the international break, and then hopefully players come back. We can cover the No.6 (position) no problem,” he added.
Bernal played 71 minutes under Flick against Valencia and 83 minutes against Athletic on Saturday at Montjuic prior to his injury.
Meanwhile, Barca returns to action as they host Real Valladolid on Saturday.
The club’s latest win boosted them to the top of the table with nine points, their best start since the 2018-19 season.
