Guardiola still a “better” coach than Amorim
Amorim, who will take over as Manchester United’s new manager on November 11, ended his stint in Lisbon on a winning note.
Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres led Sporting’s comeback from a goal down at Estádio José Alvalade, scoring a hat trick — including two penalties.
Amorim also impressed United fans, who have massive expectations for him when he arrives at Old Trafford.
Despite the win, the 39-year-old believes he is not on the level of Guardiola.
“He’s so much better than me at the moment,” Amorim said.
“But I believe a lot in my new club. We will start from a low level, and we will improve the team, the club.”
New challenge begins
Sporting fans unfurled a huge banner with the message saying: “Obrigado (thank you) Ruben Amorim.”
Amorim will conclude his spell with Sporting with a trip to Braga.
His first game in charge will be against Ipswich Town after the international break, and he will face Guardiola and City again in a Manchester Derby in December.
Nonetheless, Amorim is ready to move forward with his new club and embrace the different type of challenge that awaits him.
“When I’m at the next club, the approach will have to be different. Not much is taken from here because we will have to play differently in the future,” he said.
“Both are historic clubs. It will certainly be a different game.”
