SABALENKA FALLS TO NAVARRO IN FOURTH ROUND
Sabalenka dropped a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 decision against Navarro in their fourth-round match.
The reigning Australian Open champion trailed 1-4 in the third set and hardly got the chance to recover against the 22-year-old New Yorker.
“It’s never easy coming out and playing an opponent like that, so experienced and just so talented obviously,” Navarro said.
Navarro advances to the last eight against No.9 seed Maria Sakkari, a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 winner over Diane Parry.
GAUFF TOPS MARTENS ON 20TH BIRTHDAY TO REACH QUARTERS
Coco Gauff nearly dominated in her 6-0, 6-2 victory over Elise Mertens to advance to the last eight on her 20th birthday.
The world No.7 claimed 84% of her first serves and won six of eight break points to dismantle Mertens.
Gauff would later describe her latest win as one of her best matches since the Australian Open in January when she reached the semifinals.
“I was definitely trying to be aggressive. That just made the difference,” Gauff said.
