SABALENKA WIDENS LEAD IN PIF RACE TO WTA FINALS AFTER COPPING MADRID OPEN TITLE

Sabalenka widens her lead in the PFI Race to the WTA Finals after she copped the Madrid Open title on Saturday.

Moreover, Sabalenka added 1,000 points following her  6-3, 7-6(3) victory over American Coco Gauff in the women’s singles final to snatch a record-tying third title in Madrid.

Her latest win was her fourth final in a row and sixth in the season after she previously won the Miami Open and the WTA 500 Brisbane International.

Sabalenka also reached the finals of the Australian Openm the BNP Paribas Opn in Indian Wells and the WTA 500 Porsche Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Germany.

ARYNA BREAKS 11,000-POINT BARRIER IN WTA RANKINGS, ADDS BIG LEAD OVER SWIATEK

Sabalenka also broke the 11,000-point barrier in the latest WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) rankings to add to her big lead over No.2 Iga Swiatek.

Moreover, the three-time Grand Slam winner now has 11,118 points and a 4,345-point advantage over second running Polish star Swiatek.

Furthermore, the Belarussian is also on her 28th straight week as No.1 as of Monday, carrying her overall tally to 36 weeks on top.

Sabelenka is currently 15th in the all-time list for women with most straight weeks at No.1, as she is posied to overtake No.,14 Amelie Mauresmo (39 weeks).

Victoria Azarenka is next to be threatened by Sabalenka’s streak at 51 weeks on top.

SWIATEK EYES TO DEFEND ROME TITLE, HOLD OFF GAUFF, PEGULA AT NO.2

Swiatek, meanwhile, eyes to defend her Rome title at the Italian Open, where Sabalenka is also headed.

Furthermore, the 23-year-old world No.2 is now just 170 behind No.3 Gauff, with the Pole needing a deep run.

Moreover, a failed title defense in Italy could pull Swiatek down to as low as No.5, with Gauff and another American, Jessica Pegula, set to overtake her.

Meanwhile, Alex Eala of the Philippines rose to her highest ranking at the WTA rankings at No.70 on Monday.

The 19-year-old teenage sensation could line up for a potential matchup against Sabalenka should she go on a deep run in Rome.
