SANJU SAMSON HONORED AFTER LEADING INDIA’S WIN OVER BANGLADESH
Sanju Samson was honored back home on Monday.
His heroics led India over Bangladesh to a record total of 297/6 in 20 overs over the weekend.
Furthermore, the 29-year-old wicketkeeper-batter scored his maiden T20I (Twenty20 International) century (111 of 47) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Moreover, Samson’s century in 40 balls became the second-fastest Indian centurion.
Rohit Sharma had 35 balls.
However, Samson reached his historic ton by bringing up his half-century to 22 balls.
It was the fastest T20I fifty by an Indian batter against Bangladesh.
In such a category, Samson topped Sharma (23 balls for half a century) against Bangladesh in a T20I match in 2019.
MP SHASHI THAROOR GIFTS SAMSON WITH ‘BLUE PONNADA’
Moreover, India’s Member of Parliament (MP) Shashi Tharoor gifted Samson a “blue ponnada” for his record performance.
Furthermore, the Lok Sabha MP from Thiruvananthapuram was “delighted” to pay tribute to the batter on social media.
“Delighted to give a hero’s welcome to “ton-up Sanju” @IamSansjuSamson returned to Thiruvananthapuram after his stunning century versus Bangladesh,” Tharoor wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“Found a ‘ponnada’ in the appropriate India colors to honor him with,” he added.
It was a redemption of sorts for Samson, who made just 39 runs in two innings in the series prior to his record numbers.
He was previously dismissed for a duck in the two matches he played during India’s recent tour of Sri Lanka.
SANJU STILL LEARNING WITH ‘PRESSURE AND FAILURES’ AFTER T20I FEAT
Furthermore, Samson admitted that he is still learning from the “pressure and failures” in his play amid his recent form.
Moreover, the 29-year-old said his subpar form against Sri Lanka was an eye-opener for him.
“After a couple of ducks in Sri Lanka, I was a bit doubtful about getting a chance in the next series,” Samson said.
“But they (coaching staff and captain) backed me and kept on saying that we will back you no matter what,” he added.
The Indian batter credited coach Gautam Gambhir for giving him more confidence and awareness in his game.
“Basically, I have understood my game that I can bat anywhere from 1 to 6,” Samson said.
“I think I have power, and I also have timing in my game,” he added.
