SHARMA NOT GOING TO PAKISTAN AS CAPTAIN’S EVENT, PHOTOSHOOT SCRAPPED
Sharma, the India team captain, is not going to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025 opening after the captains’ event and the photoshoot has been scrapped.
Furthermore, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) cited logistical issues as the reeason for not pushing through with the mentioned events.
Moreover, the board recognizes that most of the teams train in different locations aside from their own facilities in their build-up for the tournament.
Additionally, Australia ius scheduled to arrive in February 19, or a day after the opening day match.
The PCB is coordinating with the International Cricket Council (ICC) regrding its decisions regarding pre-tournament and opening events.
ABSENCE OF CAPTAINS’ EVENT, PHOTOSHOOT NOT NEW TO ICC
Moreover, the absence of a captains’ event and a photoshoot is not new to the ICC.
Furthermore, the ICC did not hold a captains’ event and a photoshoot before the 2024 Men’s T20I World Cup.
The United States and the Caribbean co-hosted that tournament, where participating teams played warm-up matches in several countries.
An optical launch was held instead through a lighting projection show that featured all the 20 captains of the participating teams at the Rockefeller Center building in New York City.
The absence of a captains’ event and a photoshoot thus meant Sharma’s presence in Pakkistan is no longer necessary.
NEW BCCI SECRETARY CLARIFIES INDIA STAND ON ‘UNIFORM-RELATED ICC RULE’
Furthermore, new Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia clarified last week India’s stand regarding a “uniform-related ICC rule.”
Moreover, Saikia said that India is ready to comply with the “uniform-related ICC rule.”
This is regarding host Pakistan’s name printed on Champions Trophy 2025 kits to be worn by the players.
Incidentally, the BCCI never publicly announced it was barring Sharma from going to Pakistan prior to the PCB’s latest announcement.
The BCCI, earlier reports said, said it was “not yet been discussed” or “not on the agenda” when asked about Sharma’s possible trip to Pakistan.
Meanwhile, India will play all its Champions Trophy 2025 matches in Dubai.
This was part of a hybrid arrangement forged by the ICC, PCB, and the BCCI.
