Furthermore, the 23-year-old world No.1 also avenged an earlier loss against the claycourt specialist on this same tournament two years ago.
“It was a very long day. … But I need this. I’m happy to be back,” Sinner said after beating Cerundolo.
“I was three months out, so every situation for me, I feel very fortunate to be here, very lucky,” he added.

PAOLINI FOLLOWS SUIT, TURNS BACK SHNAIDER
Paolini followed Sinner’s lead after turning back Diana Shnaider, 6-7(1), 6-4, 6-2, to join his compatriot into the next round.
Furthermore, the 29-year-old world No.5 became the first Italian woman to advance to the semifinals in Rome.
Moreover, Sara Errani, Paolini’s doubles partner, was the last woman to do the trick after she lost the 2014 final to Serena Williams.
Paolini will next face Peyton Stearns, a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (4) winner over Elina Svitolina later Tuesday.
“It was a good thing that it rained for five minutes. I got some coaching from Sara,” Paolini said of Errani, who was watching from the stands.

Alcaraz tops Karen Khachanov, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, as he continues his recovery form a right leg injury that sidelined him in Madrid.

Moreover, he id currently 12-1 this season and 5-0 in his head-to-head matchup against the No.24-ranked Khachanov.
“Physically I was struggling a little bit, Not any pain in any part of the body,” Alcaraz said.
