Tottenham triggers Son Heung Min’s contract extension
The 32-year-old’s current contract in North London was originally set to expire at the end of this season.
Son signed a deal which will now run until the summer of 2026.
The South Korea international signed for Spurs in August 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen.
Son has scored 169 goals in 431 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions, placing him fifth on the club’s all-time top scorer list.
ESPN reported that Son was hopeful of a fresh, longer-term agreement.
However, no talks took place and Spurs simply decided to trigger the option they already had.
“The main ambition is to make sure he finishes his career here with some silverware,” said Tottenham manager Ange Postegoglou.
Son has scored 125 goals in the Premier League, solidifying his position as the most prolific Asian player in the competition’s history.
He has consistently reached double figures in each of the last eight seasons and shared the Golden Boot with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in the 2021-2022 campaign.
However, Spurs have faced challenges this season, currently sitting 12th in the Premier League.
Son, too, has endured a difficult campaign, managing just five goals from 35 attempts.
Elsewhere, Tottenham face Liverpool in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semifinal on Wednesday.
