SOUTHGATE SAYS ‘NO ISSUE’ BETWEEN HIM AND WHITE
The England boss clarified that “there is no issue” between him and White that resulted in his exclusion from the 25-man squad.
However, Southgate also learned that White is “not available” to play for England at this time.
England is scheduled to face Brazil and Belgium as part of the exhibition matches.
“For me, that’s a great shame (White’s exclusion). He’s a player I really like,” Southgate said.
“I think he’s a player who can make a difference for England. I don’t know fully why but I have to respect that,” he added.
TRAINING GROUND ROW WITH HOLLAND SURFACES
The 26-year-old White was picked for England’s squad for the 2022 World Cup before he left the camp.
Reports circulated that White was involved in a training ground row with Southgate’s assistant Steve Holland.
Southgate disclosed that he talked with FA technical director John McDermott and Arsenal technical director Edu last week.
It was Edu, who told Southgate that White “didn’t want to be considered for England squads at this time.”
