SWIATEK, GAUFF FALL SHORT IN FOURTH ROUND
Swiatek fell to Ekaterina Alexadrova, 6-4, 6-2. It was the World No.1’s second-straight loss to Alexadrova, who beat her in Melbourne in 2021.
“We played quite a few times before and sometimes it was three sets. I think sometimes I was quite close to it, but still far away,” Alexadrova said.
Gauff fought for three sets before yielding a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 decision to No.23 seed Caroline Garcia.
ALCARAZ DOWN MONFILS TO REACH ROUND OF 16
Alcaraz resumed his quest for another title with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Gael Monfils.
The Spanish world No.2 will next face Lorenzo Musetti, who defeated Ben Shelton, 6-4, 7-6(5).
In other men’s singles matches, fourth seed Alexander Zverev beat Christopher Eubanks, 7-6(4), 6-3.
No.9 seed Alex De Minaur defeated Jan-Lennard Struff, 7-6(3), 6-4.
