Thierry Henry resigns as France youth coach after Olympic silver

Thierry Henry resigns from his role as head coach of France’s youth teams after finishing silver at the Paris Olympics.

Henry resigns as France youth manager

The French Football Federation announced Henry’s resignation on Monday.

The federation cited “personal reasons” as his motivation for stepping down from his position.

The 47-year-old was contracted until next summer.

Henry helped Les Bleus senior team win the World Cup in 1998.

“I have to thank the FFF and Philippe Diallo [president of the FFF], who gave me this amazing opportunity,” Henry said.

“Winning a silver medal at the Olympics for my country will remain one of the proudest achievements of my life.”

“I am incredibly grateful to the Federation, the players, the staff and the supporters who allowed me to live out a magical experience.”

“On behalf of the FFF, I would like to thank Thierry Henry for all the work he has accomplished as the head of the under-21 and Olympic teams.”

FFF president speaks on Henry’s resignation

Henry was previously in charge for Monaco in Ligue 1 and the Montreal Impact in MLS.

Additionally, he served as an assistant coach for Roberto Martínez with Belgium’s senior men’s national team.

Henry’s Olympic team beat Argentina and Egypt on the way to the final in Paris.

However, his side absorbed a 5-3 final loss to Spain after extra time.

FFF president Philippe Diallo thanked Henry’s professionalism in his statament.

“We obviously regret this decision because Thierry was able to achieve the objectives that had been set for him by winning a silver medal at the Paris Olympics, 40 years after the Olympic medal in Los Angeles,” he said.

“Having followed him throughout this campaign, I was able to discover his great professionalism, his rigour and his love of the blue jersey. We wish him good luck for the rest of his career.”
