1st ODI: New Zealand hammers India’s bowling for easy win

The Black Caps have won the first ODI and gained a 1-0 lead in the series. This is the 5th consecutive loss for team India against New Zealand in the 50-over format. 

India put up a good score on the board but Kane Williamson and Tom Latham played excellent knocks to get their side over the line.

The weak bowling attack of team India failed to defend a good score despite picking 3 wickets under the 100-run mark. 

Solid start from the Indian openers

Kane Williamson won the toss and asked the Indian side to bat first.

Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill took full advantage of the new ball and made an excellent partnership for the first wicket.

These two added 124 runs for the first wicket and set the platform for a big total. Both Dhawan and Gill smashed half-centuries for their side. Shikhar Dhawan scored 72 runs off 77 balls while Shubman Gill scored 50 off 65 balls. 

India lost some quick wickets in the middle overs.

Both openers got departed within the gap of two overs while Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav also failed to score big. Pant scored 15 while Suryakumar scored just 4 runs in this match. 

Shreyas Iyer’s superb knock 

Shreyas Iyer continued his brilliant form in the ODIs and scored another half-century in this format.

Shreyas Iyer smashed 80 runs off just 76 balls including 4 fours and 4 sixes.

He helped his side to reach a good total of 306 runs from their 50 overs.

Sanju Samson (36 off 38) and Washington Sundar (36 off 16) also added some valuable runs for their side.

Washington Sundar smashed 3 sixes and 3 fours at a strike rate of over 231. 5.

For New Zealand, Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson scalped 3 wickets each with the ball. 

An exceptional ton from Latham 

Chasing 307 runs, New Zealand lost their first wickets under 100 runs and Kane Williamson was standing firm on the other end.

Tom Latham joined Kane Williamson and scored an outstanding knock for his side.

These two didn’t give the Indian bowlers any chance and smashed runs all around the ground.

Williamson and Latham added Tom Latham made an exceptional and unbeaten partnership of 221 runs for the 4th wicket. 

Tom Latham completed his 7th ODI hundred and remained unbeaten on 145 runs off just 104 deliveries.

He slammed 19 fours and 5 sixes in his excellent knock.

On the other hand, skipper Kane Williamson also remained not out on 94 runs off 98 balls.

Umran Malik picked two wickets and Shardul Thakur scalped one wicket for team India.

New Zealand comfortably chased down the total in 47.1 overs with 7 wickets in hand.
