CAF says Eto’o ‘innocent’ until proven guilty

by Noe

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will not pass judgment on embattled president Samuel Eto’o amid match-fixing charges against him.

The federation acknowledged that an investigation remains ongoing on the grounds of Eto’o’s improper conduct. Eto’o is also accused of abuse of power, physical threats, inciting violence, and spreading false information in Cameroon.

But the CAF insisted that the public should not make false assumptions this early against the retired Cameroonian football legend.

Eto’o is “presumed innocent until an appropriate judicial body concludes otherwise,” the CAF told The Athletic in a statement.

The FIFA Ethics Committee received a file against Eto’o that was submitted by former Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) vice-president Henry Njalla Quan Jr regarding the charges. The FIFA has refused to comment on the matter.

Cameroon coach Rigobert Song recently said the role of Eto’o as the FA president is “misunderstood.”

Eto’o, who serves as La Liga Global and M88 Mansion ambassador, is scheduled to attend the London Affiliate Conference at the M88 booth inside IGB London Ice on February 7 and 8.

Activities include meet and greet, photo opportunities, photo card signing, merchandise signing, and more.
