NADAL SET FOR PARIS OLYMPICS BUT WILL SKIP WIMBLEDON
Nadal is getting ready for the Paris Olympics after he was selected by the Spanish national team.
Furthermore, the former world No.1 will play in singles and doubles.
He will team up with newly crowned French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz, who is also entered in the men’s singles.
Spanish national team coach David Ferrer is looking forward to the Nadal-Alcaraz tandem in men’s doubles.
“One, pair, which I think everyone knows and was hoping for, is Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal and the second pair is yet to be decided,” Ferrer said.
MURRAY FAREWELL PLANS AT WIMBLEDON SET
Farewell plans for another former world No.1 Andy Murray at Wimbledon are set this year.
The 37-year-old in 2013 became the first British Wimbledon men’s singles champion since Fred Perry in 1936.
Murray defeated Milos Raonic to win his second Wimbledon title in 2016 and thus claimed his third career Grand Slam title.
“We are ready and prepared but ultimately, it’s Andy’s decision,” All England Lawn Tennis Club chief executive Sally Bolton said.
“We will be very much led by him, and we can amend our plans accordingly,” she added.
Murray will be playing in the men’s doubles competition at Wimbledon alongside his brother Jamie for the first time.
WIMBLEDON PRIZE MONEY WILL RISE TO USD64 MILLION THIS YEAR
Wimbledon’s total prize money fund will rise to a record GBP50 million (around $64 million), All England officials said on Thursday.
The men’s and women’s singles champions will be getting GBP2.7 million ($3.45 million) each.
The total prize amount will record an increase of 11.9%.
The number is GBP3.9 million ($6.8 million) more than last year, officials said.
Ticket demand “has never been greater” than it was this year, said Debirah Jevans, the new chair of the All England Club.
