ICC OPEN TO THREE OPTIONS PAKISTAN OFFERED TO HOST CHAMPIONS TROPHY
The ICC was open to all three options offered by Pakistan officials in hosting next year’s Champions Trophy.
Furthermore, sources quoted in a report said Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi attended a meeting with ICC officials on Monday.
Moreover, sources told Geo News, as cited by NDTV Sports, that PCB officials assured them that rehabilitation of the three stadiums would be completed in time for the tournament.
Naqvi invited ICC officials to visit Pakistan to oversee their preparations for the event.
ORGANIZERS HAVE OPTION TO HOST IN PAKISTAN, DUBAI OR OTHER NEUTRAL VENUES
Moreover, organizers offered an option to host in Pakistan, Dubai, or other neutral venues for next year’s Champions Trophy.
Furthermore, the ICC is aware of the organizers’ first option to host all the matches in Pakistan as originally planned.
The second option is to stage all India matches in Dubai while the rest of the competition is still hosted in Pakistan.
Additionally, the third option is to stage all matches at a neutral venue.
The choices for the neutral venues range from the United Arab Emirates to Sri Lanka or South Africa.
INDIA’S REFUSAL TO TRAVEL TO PAKISTAN TO PLAY CRICKET COMPLICATES MATTERS
Furthermore, India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan to play cricket complicates matters for organizers to stage the Champions Trophy.
Moreover, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) cited security reasons for refusing to allow an Indian national cricket team to play in Pakistan.
India has not played in any cricket in Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup.
Incidentally, India and Pakistan have only collided at ICC tournaments and the Asia Cup ever since.
Next year’s Champions Cup is the first time Pakistan will host a major international cricket event since the 1996 ODI World Cup.
That tournament was co-hosted by Pakistan, India, and Sri Lanka at the time.
