PAKISTAN MAY WITHDRAW FROM HOSTING 2025 CHAMPIONS TROPHY, SAYS REPORT
Pakistan may withdraw from hosting the 2024 Champions Trophy.
This came after India officially informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) of its decision.
Furthermore, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) may be asked by the Pakistan government to withdraw its hosting rights.
Moreover, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informed the ICC of its plan to skip the tournament.
A report quotes “Official sources” as saying that the PCB was urged to refuse to stop India from playing in any ICC or Asian Cricket Council events.
PCB TO SEEK ICC CLARIFICATION IF ‘HYBRID MODEL’ TO BE USED FOR CHAMPIONS TROPHY HOSTING
Moreover, the PCB will seek clarification from the ICC.
This is as to whether the “hybrid model” will be used if Pakistan still hosts the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Furthermore, a report from the Press Trust of India said the PCB is already aware of the BCCI’s decision, which was told to the ICC.
Last year’s Asia Cup used a hybrid model when Pakistan was the host.
All India matches were played in Sri Lanka. The remaining matches were staged in Pakistan.
NO POLICY GUIDELINES YET BY PAKISTAN AGAINST INDIA STAND
Furthermore, no policy guidelines were handed out by the Pakistani government against India’s stand.
Moreover, the source said the PCB will wait for the Pakistani government’s official decision.
“There is no talk about having the Champions Trophy on a hybrid model system as of now,” a PCB source said.
“An email is to be sent to the ICC with the advice of its legal department in which the Board wanted clarifications from the ICC on the Indian decision,” the source added.
The source noted that ICC would face no legal implications if the Pakistan government decides to make a tough stand on cricket ties with India.
