“Dangerous” Mbappe scores for Real Madrid
Jude Bellingham stepped up to take the penalty in the 30th minute and converted his spot kick to put Madrid ahead.
Mbappe quickly doubled the lead in the 38th minute, receiving a great pass from Bellingham and scoring off the post from distance.
The win left Madrid a point behind LaLiga leaders Barcelona.
Meanwhile, the France international scored his 10th goal of the season across all competitions for Real.
“[Mbappé] was dangerous as always,” Ancelotti said in his post-match news conference. “He scored an important goal to help us control the game better, and he had chances in the second half. He had a very active game, and that’s what we want from him.”
Mbappe finding the net “a relief”
Mbappé had scored only two goals in nine games before Sunday’s match at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The forward had also missed a penalty against Liverpool in the Champions League less than a week ago.
With his recent goal, Mbappe is now joint-top scorer for Madrid in the league, alongside Vinicius Junior, with eight goals.
Ancelotti said it was a relief to see Mbappe finally return to his best form.
Mbappe has been criticized by some supporters because of his disappointing performances since joining the Spanish powerhouse from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) this season.
“[It was] a relief, yes,” Ancelotti said. “At 2-0, you have more chances to win… It was a spectacular goal, fantastic. [Mbappé’s] game was very good.
“The fans understand more than anyone else what the moment of the team and the players is. They supported Mbappé, which is fair.”
