Ancelotti prefers Champions League referees
Madrid has formally complained to Spain’s football federation (RFEF) about refereeing standards in LaLiga.
Speaking ahead of Madrid’s second leg clash with Manchester City, Ancelotti said he feels “more comfortable” with referees in the Champions League.

“I think there’s less controversy, and fewer VAR interventions,” the Italian manager said.
“The VAR only intervenes when it’s necessary. In the Champions League, the best referees in each country officiate, so the quality is very high.”
Unhappy with the officiating
Madrid has been unhappy with key decisions in their last three LaLiga games: a 1-0 loss to Espanyol, a 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid, and Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Osasuna, where Bellingham was sent off.
In the latter fixture, Jude Bellingham received a red card for allegedly cursing at referee José Luis Munuera Montero.
The Spanish referee accused the England international of shouting “f— you” in his direction.
However, the midfielder claimed there was a misunderstanding and that he had only said “f— off.”
Ancelotti said he was “hopeful” that Bellingham would avoid a ban for his red card.

“I have already given my opinion on what has happened and what is happening. It is quite surprising and I have nothing to add in this regard,” he said.
“We are not happy with what happened against Osasuna, against Atletico and Espanyol. These are three games in which we have been disadvantaged and I do not understand it. The errors in the last few games have been quite clear,” he added.
