SWIATEK-EALA REMATCH LOOMS AT MADRID OPEN

A Swiatek-Eala rematch looms in Madrid after the Polish world No.2 and the Filipina world No.72 were entered in the tournament.

Furthermore, Swiatek earned a first-round bye after coming off a loss to eventual champion Jelena Ostapenko in Stuttgart.

Moreover, the Polish star hopes to win her first WTA title since ruling the French Open last year.

It will be recalled that Swiatek was one of the top five players Eala defeated in the latter’s amazing run at the Miami Open.

The Pole is the heavy favorite to get back from that loss on her preferred surface in clay.

EALA TO FACE TOMOVA IN MADRID OPENER

Eala is scheduled to take on Viktoriya Tomova in her Madrid opener.

Moreover, the 19-year-old teen sensation from the Philippines will be playing her second clay tournament this season after the Oeiras Ladies Open in Portugal.

Furthermore, Eala was not as lucky there, as she lose in the round of 16 to Hungarian Panna Udvardy, 6(4)-7, 4-6, last Thursday.

“I grew up on hardcourt, so it comes more natural to me. Maybe my game is a bit more suited to there, how to move,” Eala said, regarding her shift from her preferred hard courts to clay.

“I believe that I can do just as well on clay as I can on hard(court),” she added.

FILIPINA SCHEDULED FOR THREE TOURNAMENTS BEFORE FRENCH OPEN STINT

The Filipina is scheduled to play in three more tournaments before her anticipated deut at the French Open.

Furthermore, the teenager will next pla at the WTA 125 Vich from April 28 to May 4 followed by WTA 1000 Rome from May 5 to 11.

Moreover, Eala will also take part at the WTA 125 Parma from May 12 to 18 before finally getting a sure spot at the main draw at Roland Garros.

This became possible as Eala zoomed from the top 200 to her current No.72 ranking.

She is not making a big deal of the shift from hard courts to clay but she expects to sustain her momentum from Miami.

“In the end, it’s a court. Of course, maybe the bounce is higher, it’s affected by the weather. But it can’t make it such a big deal,” Eala said.
