BCCI, GAMBHIR MULL SHARMA’S INDIA CAPTAINCY FUTURE

The BCCI and Gambhir mull Sharma’s India captaincy future, with the five-match Test series in England a barometer for all sides involved.

Furthermore, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) is contemplating to make leadership options for India’s captaincy even before the tour of England.

Moreover, reports spread that the five-match Tests might be the right time for India to implement a transition period if Sharma will be replaced.

Sharma might be contemplating about retirement, with the England Tests possibly his last as India captain.

However, the 38-year-old has yet to finalize his plans, making the BCCI ponder its options.

GAMBHIR SEEKS LONG-TERM SOLUTION TO CAPTAINCY ISSUE NOT STOP-GAP OPTIONS: REPORTS

Multiple reports have said that Gautam is seeking a long-term solution to India’s captaincy issue and not just “stop-gap” measures.

Moreover, a report from Times of India noted that Shubman Gill could be handed by the BCCI with the vice-captain’s role in England.

Furthermore, Gambhir is committed to make a permanent solution moving forward.

“Future and continuity have to be kept in mind as far as the team is concerned. Even coach Gautam Gambhir would want a set of players he is likely to work with for an extended period,” the paper quoted a source as saying.

“There can’t be any stop-gap solutions for such an important series,” the source added.

INCONSISTENCY CONCERNS COULD COME UP WITH GILL IF BCCI REPLACES SHARMA

Inconsistency concerns could come up within Team India with Gill if the BCCI eventually replaces Sharma.

Furthermore, the 25-year-od Punjab native has only came up with 649 Test runs away from home out of the 1,893 Test runs in his career.

Moreover, fans hope Gill steps up even as his predecessor, Cheteshwar Pujara, vacated the position recently.

Meanwhile, the Times of India report also quoted its source as saying that the England series is “crucial” before the BCCI and Gambhir finalize their decision.

“The last two Test series haven’t been ideal for the team and the England series is very crucial,” the source said.
