ALCARAZ AVENGES LOSS TO ITALIAN OPEN TORMENTOR

Alcaraz got back at Italian Open tormentor Fabian Marozsan, 6-3, 6-3, to advance to the last eight.

The Spanish world No.2 admitted being “nervous” in facing Marozsan, the world No.135 who upset Alcaraz at the Italian Open in May.

“Honestly, I was nervous before the match. I’m not going to lie,” Alcaraz said. “Playing against someone that beat you… Today, I knew what I had to do.”

SINNER TOPS SHELTON FOR 18TH STRAIGHT WIN

Sinner followed Alcaraz’s lead by taking down Ben Shelton, 7-6(4), 6-1, late Tuesday, 

The reigning Australian Open champion secured his 18th straight win, 15 of them to start the 2024 season.

The Italian world No.3 next faces Jiri Lehecka, who ousted Stefanos Tsitsipas, 6-2, 6-4.

The wins of Alcaraz and Sinner came after world No.1 Novak Djokovic was upset by “lucky loser” Lucas Nardi in the third round.
