ALCARAZ TO FACE FRITZ AFTER SPANIARD OUSTS LAST BRITISH HOPE NORRIE
Expect Alcaraz to face Fritz after the Spaniard ousted last British hope Cam Norrie, 6-2, 6-3, 6-3.
The 22-year-old world No.2 took off to a hot start by claiming the opening set in 28 minutes before cruising through the victory.
Additionally, the Spaniard extended his winning streak to 23 matches while improving to 23-2 at Wimbledon.
What’s more, Alcaraz needed only one hour and 39 minutes to oust the unseeded Norrie, who allowed his opponent to tally 39 winners and 13 aces.
“To be able to play another semifinal here at Wimbledon is super special,” the Spaniard said.
FRITZ OUTLASTS KHACHANOV, CREDITS GIRLFRIEND FOR AMAZING SEMIS RUN
Fritz earned a semis date against Alcaraz after he eliminated Karen Khachanov, 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(4).
Not only that, the No.5 seed became the first American to advance in the Wimbledon semifinals since John Isner in 2018.
He would later credit his girlfriend, influencer Morgan Riddle, for his improbable run at the All England Club this year.
Riddle shared Fritz’s motivational quote he wrote for himself on social media, as the 27-year-old insisted the note was not supposed to be shared.
The note said “nobody in the whole world is underachieving harder than you.”
The American lauded her partner’s impact in him rising to the rankings as he chases his first major title.
“There’s been pretty constant results and raining rise since we’ve been together,” Fritz said of Riddle.
“I think I would have to say she’s been a big help to me just kind of keeping me focused, having someone who cares and just pushes you to just do better and do the right things, be healthier,” she added.
SABALENKA SURVIVES OPENING SET LOSS TO ELIMINATE NO.104 SIEGEMUND
Sabalenka survived an opening set loss to eliminate No.104 Laura Siegemund, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, to reach the women’s singles semifinals.
Likewise, the 27-year-old Belarussian world No.1 needed to win 12 of the final 16 points to finish off her 37-year-old German opponent in two hours and 54 minutes.
She will now play in only her third Wimbledon semifinal, this time against American Amanda Anisimova on Thursday.
Sabalenka is still seeking her first major this year after losing the Australian Open final to Madison Keys and the French Open against Coco Gauff.
“I think there’s a big possibility that I would have lost this match if I didn’t learn that lesson at the French Open,” the Belarussian said.
“But wow, she (Siegemund) played an incredible tournament, an incredible match, and I’m just super happy right now with the win,” she added.
