Carlos Alcaraz to choose Olympic gold over French Open

Carlos Alcaraz did not hesitate to pick between an Olympic gold or a French Open title he intends to win this year.

The 20-year-old prefers to claim gold in Paris than another major, this time at Roland Garros. Alcaraz would “like to win both,” but he made it clear in his decision if he needs to choose.

“For me, it’s a dream to bring a medal to my country,” the Spaniard told reporters in Buenos Aires on Monday. “And winning gold is one of the greatest things that can happen to you in the world of sport.”

“This year, if you gave me a choice, I’d say that I will keep the Olympic gold,” he added.

Alcaraz is in Buenos Aires to defend his Argentina Open set to start this week, The world No. 2 reached the Australian Open quarterfinals last month before losing to Alexander Zverev of Germany.

Alcaraz sees world No.1 Novak Djokovic and newly crowned Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner as the players he needs to beat. The Villena native put Djokovic and Sinner ahead of Zverev, who has a 5-3 head-to-head edge against him.
