Inter 1-0 Atletico – Champions League highlights
Last season’s finalist Inter Milan host Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League last-16 tie.
Marko Arnautovic, who missed crucial chances, finally scored the only goal to give his side a massive advantage ahead of the return leg in Madrid.
The former English Premier League striker had two decent chances, but he shot the ball wide from close range.
The third time was a charm; however, the Austrian slammed a 79th-minute rebound to shut down a resilient Spanish side.
Los Colchoneros should have done better, but an underperformed Antoine Griezmann and fresh-from-knee-problem Alvaro Morata could not do well enough. The French striker Griezmann exited with an apparent injury, which may cause more significant issues for Diego Simeone ahead of the return leg at home.
A trip to the Metropolitano Stadium – where Diego Simeone’s team have lost just once this season – to come, and Filipo Inzaghi will not want to watch the chance to advance slip.
PSV 1-1 Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund thought they could leave the Netherlands with a victory, but Luuk de Jong disapproved of that.
The former Barcelona marksman De Jong scored a crucial penalty to cancel out Donyell Mallen’s first-half strike as PSV and the Bundesliga side played out a 1-1 draw at Philips Stadion.
The result leaves the tie finely poised ahead of the return leg at Signal Iduna Park in three weeks. De Jong’s strike was his 28th of the season in all competitions.
Donyell Malen struck against his former club as Borussia Dortmund secured a 1-1 draw at PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 encounter, but he did not celebrate.
The 25-year-old Dutch international broke the deadlock on 24 minutes when he jinked past two before rifling a rising shot at the near post via the crossbar.
PSV carved out more openings in a lively first 45, but Malik Tillman twice contrived to miss the target. At the same time, Johan Bakayoko fluffed his lines with an awkward volley.
The hosts continued to ask questions following the interval and pulled level through Luuk de Jong’s contentious 56th-minute penalty.
The Eredivisie outfit remained on top in the final stanza of the contest. Still, it could not manufacture a clear-cut opportunity to clinch the victory.
The sides will reconvene for the second leg in Germany on March 13.
