SUAREZ, NUNEZ MAKE BIELSA’S 26-MAN FINAL ROSTER
Inter Miami striker Suarez and Liverpool striker Nunez headline manager Marcelo Bielsa’s 26-man roster for Copa America 2024.
Furthermore, Uruguay’s roster will also be bolstered by Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde, Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte, and Tottenham Hotspur’s Rodrigo Betancur.
Suarez will be the second major player that Inter Miami will lose for Copa America.
Additionally, Lionel Messi was earlier named to Argentina’s provisional roster, while Matias Rojas and David Ruiz will also miss several Inter Miami matches.
Interestingly, the 37-year-old Suarez will play despite knee concerns.
Suarez will attempt to add to his 68 goals in 138 international caps.
CAVANI, VECINO MISS OUT BIELSA’S FINAL SQUAD
Edinson Cavani led the list of notable absences after the Boca Juniors striker announced his retirement late last month.
Interestingly, the 37-year-old was part of the Uruguay squad that won the 2011 Copa America title.
Cavani, on the other hand, tallied 58 goals in 136 appearances for Uruguay, leaving a lasting legacy for the South American country.
Matias Vecino has also decided to retire, while Liverpool’s Luciano Rodriguez and Orlando City’s Facundo Torres missed the cut.
Furthermore, Wolves’ Santiago Bueno and Cadiz’s Maxi Gomez also failed to crack Bielsa’s final roster.
URUGUAY JOINS US, PANAMA, BOLIVIA IN COPA GROUP A
Matias Vecino (Lazio), Nahitan Nandez (Cagliari), and Manuel Ugarte (PSG) were also included at midfield.
Matias Vina (Flamengo) and Ronald Agaujo of Barcelona will lead the list of Uruguay defenders.
Uruguay will join host United States, Panama, and Bolivia and Group A in Copa America 2024.
Bielsa’s men open their Copa campaign against Panama on June 24 in Miami, followed by a matchup against Bolivia in New York on June 28.
Uruguay caps its preliminary group stage campaign against the US in Kansas City on July 2.
