DJOKOVIC ‘GRATEFUL’ TO PLAY WITH HIS ‘FRIEND’ DEL POTRO IN FAREWELL MATCH

Djokovic was “grateful” to play with his “friend” del Potro at the Argentine’s “Last Challenge” exhibition match at the Parque Roca stadium in Buenos Aires.

Furthermore, the 24-time Grand Slam champion shardd the sentiments of hundreds of Argentinians who watched del Potro’s last match before he retires.

Moreover, Dejokovic’s 7-5, 6-4 loss to del Potro in the showpiece singles match made him emotional after seeing his friend play one last time.

“Like everyone in this stadium, I am very emotional today,” Djokovic told Eurosport after the match on Sunday.

“Everyone loves him (del Potro) very much. Icome from a country that has a culture with those values that defines a person by howw they behave,” he added.

NOVAK CALLS DEL POTRO ‘A GREAT PERSON, A GREAT PLAYER’ ON TOUR

Djokovic called del Potro “a great person and a great player” as he recalled their countless battles on the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Tour.

Moreover, the Serbian world No.7 joined former US Open champion Gabriela Sabatini and former doubles world No.1 Gisela Dulko in attending and paying tributes to del Potro.

Furthermore, Djokovic relishes having a “special day” playing with a friend and a “great rivsal” as del Potro.

“I do not know a person who does not love Juan Martin del Potro. Everyone loves him very much. Juan Martin del Potro is an example for all of us,” the Serbian said.

“And his greatest victory in life is being a wonderful person,” he added.

FEDERER, NADAL, ALCARAZ LEAD SPECIAL VIDEO TRIBUTES TO DEL POTRO

Retired legends Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, as well as world No.2 Carlos Alcaraz led special video tributes to del Potro.

Furthermore, Frenchman Gael Monfils also shared his sentiments on playing against the Argentinean great.

Moreover, Federer was happy that del Potro managed to leave the game by “celebrating, not a sad one.”

“You were a very special player and person for the world of tennis, and I hope this moment is a beautiful one, where you are celebratong, not a sad one,” Federer said.

“We all need to take that next step in life, and I believe the best for you is yet to come, Juan Martin,” he added.
