DJOKOVIC DRUBS MUSETTI TO REACH MONTE CARLO LAST 8
Djokovic advanced to the quarterfinals after posting a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Lorenzo Musetti.
The world No.1 exacted revenge on Musetti, who beat him at the Country Club in the third round last year.
“I lost to him (Musetti) last year here. Similar circumstances,” Djokovic recalled.
“I was like ‘Oh no, hopefully this is not a similar scenario like last year. I’m really glad to overcome the challenge,” he added.
The Serbian superstar, who’s a two-time Monte Carlo champion, converted five of six break points to pull off the win.
MEDVEDEV LOSES TEMPER, FALLS TO KACHANOV
Medvedev never got going, as he fell to Kachanov, 6-3, 7-5, in a battle of fellow Russian tennis players.
The world No.4 lost his temper near the end of the second set before he was handed a point penalty.
He was punished for yelling at the chair umpire at the changeover.
Kachanov punished Medvedev with 11 winners to churn out his first victory over a top five player this season.
“First thing is to be consistent. I think lately my results have been better and better,” Kachanov said.
“I lost a couple of matches to him (Medvedev) on hard courts. On clay, I have not got a title yet, but I have good results,” he added.
SINNER, TSITSIPAS, RUNE HURDLE FOES TO ADVANCE
World No.2 Jannik Sinner pulled off a 6-4, 6-2 win over Jan-Lennard Struff to advance to the last eight.
The reigning Australian Open champion moves on to face Holger Rune, who ousted Grigor Dimitrov, 7-6(9), 3-6, 7-6(2).
Two-time Monte Carlo champion Stefanos Tsitsipas also advanced, as he defeated Alexander Zverev, 7-5, 7-6(3).
Tsitsipas will next meet Kachanov.
Alex de Minaur, who will Djokovic faces in the next round, reached the quarters after a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Alexei Poyrin.
