‘Don’t rush’ Jadeja, former India cricket star tells BCCI

Ravindra Jadeja should only play for India if he’s fully recovered from his injury, says former batsman Aakash Chopra.

Jadeja may be “indispensable” to India in its Test series against England. But the team should not “rush him” in its third Test series on Thursday, Chopra added.

“Because he (Jadeja) is indispensable, you do not want to rush him back too quickly, as he will have to bowl a lot,” he said.

Chopra’s statement is meant for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which included Jadeja for Thursday’s match.

The BCCI clarified, however, that Jadeja’s availability in Rajkot will be subject to his fitness. This does not sit well with the current cricket commentator.

The 46-year-old former Delhi cricket team star described Jadeja as a “three-dimensional player.” Jadeja, Chopra, said he might “have to bowl a lot,” which could compromise his health.

After Thursday’s Test, India and England will collide in the fourth match in Ranchi on February 23. The fifth match is scheduled for March 7 in Dharamsala.

England took the opener of the five-Test series before India tied the match in a 106-run win last Monday. Jasprit Bumrah set the tone with six wickets (6/45) in the first inning to carry the hosts.
