Ex-spinner Singh praises Sharma
Sharma had a heroic performance with a 28-ball 61 in a loss against the Mumbai Indians.
Despite the defeat, Sharma won the hearts of fans according to Singh.
Singh, who now serves as a Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha, even compared the youngster to India’s dynamic batter Suryakumar Yadav.
“He plays like Suryakumar Yadav and it is not easy to hit Bumrah for boundaries the way he does. MI won the game but Ashutosh won hearts,” Singh said on his YouTube channel.
Sharma’s wasted years in Madhya Pradesh
The 25-year-old Sharma recently opened up about his battle with depression at one point in his career.
According to Sharma, he had an alleged fallout with the then Madhya Pradesh head coach, Chandrakant Pandit.
Singh was aware of the fact that Sharma was sidelined, which led to his depression.
“Ashutosh was rejected by Madhya Pradesh, he played a top knock and it is said that he was in depression,” Singh said.
“He got a job in the Railways and the best thing that happened was he played for them and struck a half-century in 11 balls. This is a record and it shows the potential of the Ashutosh. Ashutosh has said it on record about the trouble that was caused by the coach,” Harbhajan added.
Sharma is currently enjoying his breakout season with the Punjab Kings this IPL 2024.
