DHONI REPLACED AS CSK CAPTAINED HAPPENED BEFORE

Fleming said Dhoni’s situation happened before in 2022, where the latter was replaced by

Ravindra Jadeja.

This year, CSK named Ruturaj Gaikwad as the new skipper replacing Dhoni.

“We weren’t ready ti move away from MS (Dhoni) in 2022. Dhoni has a good sense of the game,” Fleming said.

Dhoni took back the captaincy role from Jadeja at the time and kept the position until this year.

FLEMING CITES NEED TO DEVELOP YOUNG PLAYERS

However, Fleming cited the importance of CSK developing younger players to more leadership roles.

(But) we are well prepared this time. We want to develop young players for the role (captaincy),” the CSK coach said.

“We have been slow on life after MS Dhoni. But trusting the youngsters has paid off well for us,” he added.

Fleming explained that Gaikwad should embrace his new role after having a word with him recently.

“It’s a great opportunity for him (Gaikwad) to lead the team,” Fleming said.

CSK opens its 2024 Indian Premier League campaign against Virat Kohli and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Chennai on Friday.
