FONSECA WINS BIG AT MIAMI OPEN AFTER BEATING TIEN BEHIND BRAZILIAN CROWD
Fonseca wins big at the Miami Open after his 6-7 (1) 6-3, 6-4 victory over Vietnamese-American Learner Tien.
Furthermore, the the 18-year-old Brazilian world No.60 drew strength from a good number of his compatriots from the stands to beat his 19-year-old opponent in a battle of teenage tennis wunderkids.
Moreover, Fonseca overcame a heartbreaking tie-breaker in the opening set with an inspiring performance in the last two sets to satisfy the small Brazilian crowd at Hard Rock Stadium.
“I’m very grateful for the Brazilian fans who came here and cheered my name and were being so loud,” Fonseca said.
“It really means a lot, and it helped me a lot to win this match,” he added.
HUMBERT AWAITS BRAZILIAN TEENAGER IN NEXT ROUND
Moreover, the work’s far from done for Fonseca, who now advances to face 19th-seeded Ugo Humbert in the second round.
Furthermore, the Brazilian paid tribute to his fellow teener Tien, whom he described as a “solid, smart player.”
“I knew it was going to be very difficult against Learner, a great guy and a solid, smart player,” Fonseca said.
“”So I needed to go until the end and I just went to it hard and the Brazilian crowd was with me today,” he added.
Fonseca relied on his big-hitting serves to complete an auspicious debut in South Florida and give his Brazilian fans in Miami something to remember.

PLATENIK ‘NOT ANGRY’ AFTER COACH SPLIT WITH RADUCANU
Meanwhile, Platenik was surprised but “not angry” after the coach’s split with Raducanu after just 14 days.
Furthermore, the 49-year-old Slovakian former player understood that Raducanu “was “was feeling stressed and under a lot of pressure.”
Moreover, Platenik said he welcomes if he and the 22-year-old Briton will work again in the future.
“I totally understand Emma, she’s not in an easy position. The world is looking at her after the US Open (which she won in 2021) and everybody is expecting – including herself – what she is going to do next,” Platenik said.
“She needs to feel good. If she comes back in six months and says ‘Vlado, I made a mistake because actually it was working and I just needed to try to find myself’, it’s OK – this is life,” he added.
