Fritz returns in ATP top 10; Pegula, Navarro rise among women

FRITZ RETURNS IN ATP TOP 10 RANKINGS; SINNER DOUBLES LEAD OVER NEW NO.2 ZVEREV

Furthermore, Fritz returns to the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) top 10 rankings after the American placed runner-up in the US Open final on Sunday.

Moreover, the 26-year-old boosted to No.7 on the ATP list after losing to Italian Jannik Sinner, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5, in the final in New York.

Sinner doubled his lead as he kept the world No.1 ranking he’s held since June after winning at Flushing Meadows.

The Italian two-time major champion doubled his lead over Zverev, who overtook No.3 Carlos Alcaraz in the latest ATP list.

Former world No.1 Novak Djokovic, a gold medalist in the Paris Olympics men’s singles competition, dropped from No.2 to No.4

Daniil Medvedev stayed at No.5, followed by Andrey Rublev at No.6.

British Jack Draper rose from No.25 to a career-high No.20 after reaching the New York semifinals.

PEGULA, NAVARRO RISE AMONG WOMEN IN WTA LIST

Moreover, Pegula and Navarro rise among the women based on the latest Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) list.

Furthermore, Pegula moved to No.3 after placing runner-up behind Aryna Sabalenka in the US Open women’s final.

Navarro, meanwhile, rose to a career-best No.8 for reaching the semifinals in New York.

Sabalenka remained at No.2 behind reigning No.1 Iga Swiatek, who lost to Pegula in the quarterfinals.

“I mean, I’m not trying to focus on ranking, to be honest. Not like I’m checking where I’m going to be after the tournament,” Sabalenka said after her 7-5, 7-5 win over Pegula on Saturday.

“I’m just trying to focus on myself, on improving myself as a player and as a person. I’ll be able to become world No.1 again,” she added.

DRAPER TO PLAY IN DAVIS CUP WITH BRITAIN DESPITE FITNESS ISSUES

Furthermore, Draper will play in the Davis Cup with Britain despite fitness issues that marred his stint at the US Open.

Moreover, a spokesperson for Britain’s No.1 player said Draper will join his British teammates for the Davis Cup on Tuesday.

Draper vomited three times in is 7-5, 7-6(3), 6-2 loss to Sinner in the semifinals on Friday.

“After a short turnaround following the US Open, Jack (Draper) will be joining the team in Manchester on Tuesday ahead of the first match on Wednesday,” the spokesperson told British media.

“Jack and his team are working hard to get fit, and (British team captain) Leon (Smith) will take all this into account when he makes his team decision,” the spokesperson added.

Draper and his British teammates will face Finland on Wednesday.

They will take on Argentina on Friday before meeting 2022 champions Canada on Sunday in Group D of the tournament.
