City may not qualify for the Champions League
Guardiola’s side drew 1-1 with Everton at the Etihad Stadium on Boxing Day.
City have won only one of their last eight Premier League games and currently sit seventh, 12 points behind league leaders Liverpool.
They are also four points behind Nottingham Forest, who occupy the fourth and final Champions League qualification berth.
“When I said before, people laughed. They said, ‘qualifying for the Champions League is not a big success’. But I know it because it happens with clubs in this country,” Guardiola told reporters.
“They were dominant for many years and after they were many years not qualifying for the Champions League. The one team that has been in the Champions League for the past years has been Manchester City. Now we are at risk, of course we are.”
City’s next plan
Meanwhile, Guardiola told Amazon Prime Video that City are keen to add reinforcements in the January transfer window.
However, the Spanish manager emphasized that the club will only consider signings capable of making an impact for “four or five years.”
“The transfer window in the winter is not easy,” Guardiola said. “Even the players know that we have to add some new players. But after, when these players come and play in their positions then they are unhappy.”
“But we have a lot [of injuries] and this is a problem. It’s about bringing a player for the next four or five years and we’ll have to see. Sometimes it is not easy. We have to try because this is sustained for a long time.”
