OBUYA CALLS IT QUITS AFTER 23 YEARS
The Kenyan international cricketer decided after completing his last match with Kenya, which lost to Uganda, in the battle for third place.
Obuya scored 2,044 runs for 104 ODIs for Kenya while taking 35 wickets to emerge as the third-highest run scorer in the format,
“I have decided to retire from the game after 23 years. It’s been a big honor playing for Kenya,” the Kenyan cricket captain said.
OBUYA LED KENYA IN 2003 WORLD CUP SEMIS
One of the highlights of Obuya’s career came in 2003 when he helped Kenya reach the semifinals of the World Cup.
The 42-year-old all-rounder had a career-best haul of 5-for-24 that helped Kenya beat Sri Lanka to reach the Super Six stage.
Obuya eventually finished that tournament with 13 wickets at 28.76.
He became Kenya’s captain after the 2011 World Cup before he yielded the post two years later.
