RADUCANU TO PLAY AT INDIAN WELLS AFTER DISTURBING INCIDENT IN DUBAI
Expect Raducanu to play at Indian Wells after she had to go through a disturbing incident in Dubai that involved a spectator.
Furthermore, the 22-year-old British player will be provided with extra security personnel at the tournament set from March 5-16.
Moreover, Raducanu informed organizers at the Dubai Championships that she needed a break in her second-round match against Karolina Muchova.
Her concerns prompted organizers to remove a man, whom they said displayed “fixated behavior” towards Raducanu.
The Brit went back to play but lost to Muchova, 7-6(6), 6-4.
WTA BANS MAN FROM ALL EVENTS; NO CHARGES FILED
The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) decided to ban the man, who was not identified, from all of its events indefinitely.
Moreover, the association vowed to work with Raducanu and her team to ensure her security and well-being.
She also did not pursue any charges against the man.
Furthermore, the British player has not regained her deadly form since she won the 2021 US Open.
Raducanu thus fell to No.55 in the latest WTA rankings.
The BBC and Sky Sports reported on Raducanu’s extra security for Indian Wells, although organizers did not made an official announcement.
NEW INTERIM COACH NAMED TO BOOST BRIT’S CHANCES AT INDIAN WELLS
Meanwhile, Raducanu named Tom Welsh as her interim coach as they head to Indian Wells.
Furthermore, Welsh replaced Nick Cavaday albeit on a temporary basis to manage the British player’s corner.
Moreover, Cavaday left Raducanu’s team after the Australian Open due to health reasons.
She has also named Jane O’Donoghue and Roman Kelecic as part of her team for Indian Wells.
Raducanu will also be joined by Yutaka Nakamura, who is currently her strength and conditioning specialist.
