The India “A” squad added a key player in their four-day Tests against the England Lions on Tuesday.
International cricketer Rinku Singh will join the team in their second match against the Lions in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced.
Singh averaged 57.57 with seven centuries and 20 half-centuries. The 26-year-old tallied 3,109 runs in 44 first-class matches.
As a reserve for the India Test squad in South Africa recently, Singh had 17 and 38 scores in the two matches. The Uttar Pradesh left-hander averaged 89 with a strike rate of 176 in 15 matches in Twenty20 Internationals.
The BCCI’s latest announcement came after Virat Kohli pulled out in India’s first two Test matches against England. The veteran batter withdrew due to personal reasons.
Kohli’s replacement has yet to be announced. But Madhya Pradesh star Rajat Patidar and Mumbai’s Sarfaraz Khan are the frontrunners to take over Kohli’s spot, according to multiple reports.
The 30-year-old Patidar led Madhya Pradesh to the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy as he hit 100 against Mumbai. Khan had 982 runs for Mumbai in six games with a highest score of 275 and a century in the final at Bangalore.
