Fit to play
The 26-year-old Pant underwent a 14-month rehabilitation and recovery process after getting involved in a horrific car crash in December 2022.
The 2024 IPL season will kick off on March 22.
Pant, who plays for Delhi Capitals in IPL, passed all the fitness tests related to his ‘Return To Play’ (RTP).
He will now take over the role of the wicketkeeper-batter and team captain for the squad.
“Doctor even spoke to me about amputation…”
Pant recalled the harrowing situation that he went through after the car crash.
Doctors even considered amputation, since Pant sustained a severe right knee injury that required a ligament reconstruction surgery.
“You become more disciplined if you are spiritual,” he told the Times of India.
“It’s a personal choice. It helped me concentrate on myself. When my accident happened, I felt something spiritual saved me. With the kind of accident I had, I only got my knee injured, but I can’t even imagine how much worse it could have been.”
“Doctors even spoke to me about amputation. I always thought about God. This has given a different view altogether. I know someone is watching over me.”
The left-handed batter missed all 2023 major tournaments, like the Indian Premier League and the ODI World Cup.
Nonetheless, the fans are excited to see Pant suit up in IPL for the first time in over a year.
