Team News

Captained by Hardik Pandya and powered by Shivam Mavi’s brilliant spell, India managed to pip Sri Lanka by 2 runs in the 1st T20.

However, there were large parts of the match when India looked totally in control.

The match wasn’t as close as the final scoreline suggests.

The middle-order failed to perform and India might want to mix things up a bit. Sanju Samson has been ruled out due to injury and wicket-keeper batter Jitesh Sharma of Punjab Kings has been named as his replacement.

However, he is unlikely to play and Rahul Tripathi might finally get his chance to don India colours. Rituraj Gaikwad might sit out as the team might want to give a few more chances to the Ishan Kishan-Gill combo.

Yuzvendra Chahal has had an ordinary run in T20Is in the last couple of years but with no other wrist spinner in the squad, could be persisted with.

Axar Patel looked solid with the ball and bat in the first game and looks set to be part of the team.

Arshdeep Singh sat out due to injury and if he is declared fit, Chahal might make way for him. India could go for a seam attack as the Pune wicket is known to help pace bowlers.

Sri Lanka have a strong bowling attack with Dilshan Madushanka and Kasun Rajitha leading the pace attack.

Maheesh Theekshana and Hasaranga are one of the world’s best spin twins.

Sri Lanka might consider replacing Dhananjaya de Silva with all-rounder Sadeera Samarawickrama who had a good LPL season. Or Avishka Fernando might come in to strengthen the batting order.

Skipper Shanaka will look forward to continuing his good form with the bat and ball.

Pitch and Weather

Pune will help the seam bowlers early on.

There haven’t been many T20Is at this venue with only one game witnessing a 200-plus total.

That was when India scored 201 against Sri Lanka in 2020. India have won two of their three T20Is here.

As for the weather, Pune will have a humidity of 45% during the game.

There’s no chance of any rain at the venue.

The temperature is expected to be in the range of 27°C – 31°C during the game.
