The International Cricket Council lifted the ban on Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) with “immediate effect.”

ICC lifts SLC’s suspension
The ICC released a statement to announce the uplifting of SLC’s two-month ban.
“The ICC Board has been monitoring the situation since the suspension and are now satisfied that SLC are no longer in breach of membership obligations,” it read.
Sri Lanka sports minister Rahin Fernando posted the announcement on X (formerly Twitter).
He said an official media statement would follow soon.
In November 2023, SLC was suspended for violation of its obligations as an ICC Member.
Specifically, SLC breached the requirement of ensuring that there is no government interference in the governance, regulation, and/or administration of cricket in Sri Lanka.
The ICC suspended SLC after Roshan Ranasinghe, Fernando’s predecessor, fired the incumbent Shammi Silva administration.
Ranashinge then appointed an interim committee headed by former skipper Arjuna Ranatunga.
The court later reinstated Silva, whil President Ranil Wickremesinghe fired Ranasinghe.
Despite the suspension, the ICC boards allowed Sri Lanka to continue to compete internationall in both bilateral cricket and ICC events.
However, Sri Lanka lost its hosting rights in the U-19 World Cup.
The ongoing U-19 World Cup is taking place at South Africa.
“However, pursuant to SLC President Shammi Silvas’s fervent happen to the Members, the ICC Board has carved out an exception permitting Sri Lankans to compete internationally in bilateral and ICC events, despite the suspension.”
