Saudi Arabia’s Abdulrahman Al Oboud had put the hosts ahead after 19 minutes.

Australia hit back just before halftime with a calm finish from Connor Metcalfe.

Mitchell Duke then scored the winner in the 48th minute to complete the comeback.

Duke’s goal sparked wild celebrations on the Aussie bench and secured the vital three points.

With the victory, the Socceroos secured second place in Group C with 19 points, just behind group leaders Japan, who finished with 23.

Both teams earned direct qualification to the World Cup.

Other qualifications in Asia

Earlier, Japan and South Korea capped off successful campaigns with emphatic home victories over Indonesia and Kuwait, respectively.

In Osaka, Daichi Kamada scored after 15 minutes, putting Japan on track for a 6-0 victory.

In Asia’s third round of qualification, the top two teams from each of the three groups of six will automatically qualify for next summer’s World Cup.

Jordan, Uzbekistan, Iran, Japan, and South Korea have already booked their spots in the global football tournament.

South Korea secured the top spot in Group B with a 4-0 win over Kuwait.

The six teams that finish third and fourth move on to the next stage to compete for Asia’s two remaining automatic World Cup spots.

Meanwhile, Oman claimed the final spot with a 1-1 draw against Palestine.

They will join Qatar, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia in the fourth round, set for October.
